East Brunswick Department of Recreation
Community Food Pantry – A modest food pantry is maintained at the Recreation & Parks Office. Donation of non-perishable foods are received throughout the year.
Backpack & School Supply Drive – This is done in August at the Day Camp Sites and by Crystal Springs employees. Donations are also brought in by individual residents and the Moms Club. Backpacks filled with School Supplies are supplied to residents in need of a helping hand.
Feed the Heart Program – Started in 2016 by Rick Perrine to help raise money for the Holiday Basket Program. Various restaurants in East Brunswick donate a portion of their sales on December 1st to the Holiday Food Basket Program.
The Holiday Basket Program – Families in need from the East Brunswick community are invited to participate in the Holiday Basket Program. These families are identified thru the East Brunswick Schools – Free Lunch Program.
In 2016, approximately 190 needy families were included in this program. The families that are not “adopted/sponsored” will receive gift cards to do their own shopping.
Puerto Rico Assistance:
Mayor Cohen is working with Mayor Diaz from Perth Amboy to assist in Puerto Rico's recovery efforts, as nearly half of the residents there are without access to drinkable water and 95 per cent are without access to electricity. If you wish to participate, please consider donating to one of the following two New Jersey based nonprofits:
**New Jersey for Puerto Rico: Hurricane Relief**- A partnership with the State of NJ, The American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico and others to get the people of Puerto Rico the aid they need as soon as possible.
**Celebrate Perth Amboy- San Sebastian Relief Fund**- While many areas of Puerto Rico are receiving the aide they so desperately need, the more rural areas are struggling with delivery. The San Sebastian Relief Fund is an offshoot of the Celebrate Perth Amboy local charity that is trying to move resources into assisting the recovery efforts of one of those more remote areas.
