Chief James Conroy

Chief of Police James Conroy

On January 6, 2016 Chief James Conroy was promoted to Chief of Police of the East Brunswick Police Department. He was assigned to the Patrol Section upon his graduation from the Somerset County Police Academy in 1994. While in the Patrol Section, he was assigned as a Field Training Officer and Drug Recognition Evaluator.

In 1998, he was transferred to the Investigative Division as a member of the Anti-Crime Unit. In 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and transferred to the Operations Division as a squad supervisor. In 2008, he was transferred to the Training Facility as the departmental Range Master. In 2009, Chief Conroy was promoted to Lieutenant where he served as a Station Commander and also as the Commander of Special Operations. In February of 2015, Chief Conroy was promoted to Captain and served as Commander of the Investigative Division. In January of 2016, he was promoted to Chief of Police of the East Brunswick Police Department.

During his career, Chief Conroy also served as a sniper on the SWAT team, is a firearms and rifle instructor and instituted the department’s first Patrol Rifle Program. He has received the Distinguished Service Award and earned several Letters of Commendation. He earned his undergraduate degree in Marketing from Rider University and a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Training and Development from Seton Hall University.  In 2012, Chief Conroy graduated from Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command and graduated from the FBI National Academy, Class 261, Quantico, Virginia in September of 2015.
