 Man Arrested Twice in a Week for Inhaling Chemical Fumes While Operating a Motor Vehicle:

On May 15, 2010, at 1020am, Patrolman Glenn Tabasko of the East Brunswick Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Windsor Drive and James Road. Upon Patrolman Tabasko’s arrival at the accident scene the investigation found that the driver of a 1998 Chevrolet SUV, struck an unoccupied parked vehicle after continuing straight through the “T” intersection. Patrolman Tabasko found the driver of the SUV in a confused and disoriented condition still seated in the driver’s seat and the vehicle in still in drive. Officer Tabasko attempted to open the door, however it was locked and the driver picked up an aerosol can and began inhaling the fumes produced by the can. Patrolman Tabasko after several attempts to gain the attention of the driver was able to get the door open and stop him from continuing to inhale the fumes. The driver identified as Gerald F. Hook II, 37 years old of Spotswood, was removed from the car and placed under arrest for inhalation fumes of a toxic chemical and additionally charged with driving while under the influence. For precautionary reasons he was transported to the hospital and later released pending court. On May, 19, 2010, at 957am, Patrolman Maria Herrera was on patrol when she observed a 1998 Chevrolet SUV stopped in the left travel lane of Rues lane near White Oak Road. Patrolman Herrera approached the vehicle and found the driver, Gerald F. Hook II, 37 years old of Spotswood, in an impaired state holding an aerosol can. Hook was unresponsive to Patrolman Herrera’s commands to open the door and put the vehicle in park. Patrolman Herrera, with the assistance of Patrolman Blanco, was able to enter the vehicle and put the vehicle in park. The driver, Gerald F. Hook II, was again removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest for inhalation fumes of a toxic chemical and additionally charged with driving while under the influence. For precautionary reasons he was transported to the hospital and later released pending court.
