East Brunswick police responded to the New York Sports Club located at 300 Highway 18 on March 4th at 2:45 PM on a report of a theft from a locker. Upon arrival, the complainant, a 36 year old male from Helmetta, advised officers that an unknown actor gained entry to his gym locker and removed cash, his driver’s license and several credit cards. The investigation determined that two Hispanic males had purchased guest passes for the health club, but left shortly after arriving.

While speaking with the victim, other officers responded to a report of suspicious credit card activity taking place at Best Buy, also located at 300 Highway 18. Two Hispanic males entered the store and made purchases in excess of $850 using the credit card of the victim from New York Sports. One of the suspects was located in the parking lot of Mid-State Mall by Patrolman Kevin Bolch and identified as the same individual who had been in New York Sports Club and Best Buy. When asked for identification, the individual identified himself as the theft victim from the health club. The suspect was also found in possession of recently purchased merchandise from Sports Authority that had been purchased with the victim’s credit cards in excess of $300. Additional property belonging to the victim was also located on the suspect. Police arrested 21 year old Christian D. Gomez of Freemansburg, Pa. He was transported to police headquarters and charged with credit card theft, fraudulent use of credit cards, conspiracy to commit theft, and hindering apprehension. Bail was set at $25,000 and Mr. Gomez was transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center. The second suspect was not located.
