 WATER RESCUE Team

The Township of East Brunswick is surrounded by waterways, and contains numerous large bodies of waters.  Identifying these as potential public safety concerns, the East Brunswick Police established the East Brunswick Police Water Rescue Team.  In addition to servicing the Township, a mutual aid agreement has been established, declaring that the East Brunswick Police Water Rescue Team be responsible for assisting agencies throughout Middlesex County with water emergencies.   In exchange for providing county-wide service, Middlesex County purchased a 22’ boat for the team.

The team trains monthly under various conditions that simulate the diversity of environmental factors they will encounter in the waters of this county.  The team is skilled in ice diving, surface ice rescue, underwater recovery, water rescue, and watercraft operations.  The team utilizes a communication system that allows divers to communicate with each other and to the surface console.  This system greatly enhances diver efficiency and safety.

The East Brunswick Water Rescue Team has been called out many times, both locally and to assist other police agencies with various incidents and investigations.  The team was also featured on Fox news, educating viewers in the dangers of icy water.

Lt. Russell MacArthur is the Water Rescue Team Commander.  He is a certified SCUBA diver, and has attended numerous training programs for advanced diving techniques.
