School Resource Officers |

In September 2002 the East Brunswick Police Department implemented a program which has proven to be extremely successful. Currently, two experienced officers have been selected to work in each of the secondary schools - Hammarskjold Middle School, Churchill Junior High School and East Brunswick High School. The purpose of the assignment was to put law enforcement officers in the school environment to interact closely with administrators and staff in order to develop a working partnership. Through this partnership, an alliance was created to ensure that East Brunswick students receive an excellent education in a safe environment.
Due to the combined efforts of all of the officers, the program has been enthusiastically welcomed by administrators and students. The officers have helped bridge the gap between police and young people by taking an active personal interest in students and their activities.
School Resource Officers (SRO) are present during regular school hours to respond to and investigate any calls for service within the school. They assist in developing school preparedness guidelines as well as formulate educational crime prevention programs to reduce the opportunity for crime within the school.
Detective Anita Conway (aconway@ebnet.org) has served in the Patrol Division, Investigative Division, Traffic Division and as the D.A.R.E officer for eight years. She attended Middlesex County College and is currently assigned as the SRO for East Brunswick High School.
Patrolman Kevin Garrett (kgarrett@ebnet.org) has served in the Patrol Division and Investigative Division. He received his Bachelors Degree from Trenton State College in Criminal Justice and is currently assigned as the SRO for Hammarskjold School and Churchill Junior High School.
