Water Utility
Water Production – George Smith, Water Production Coordinator 732-390-6793
The Water Production Division is responsible for providing safe drinking water to the community and assuring that its quality meets the standards established by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. System Operators are responsible for taking daily and periodic samples of drinking water in order to monitor water quality and fulfill State mandated reporting requirements. The Tices Lane Pumping Station is responsible for delivering an average of 14 million gallons per day of safe drinking water to East Brunswick as well as to utility customers in South River, Helmetta, Spotswood, and Schweitzer Maudit; as well as wheeling water back to our supplier, the Middlesex Water Company. This Division also monitors the New Jersey One-Call System for underground mark out requests for water facilities in order to ensure that service remains uninterrupted.
Water Maintenance – Frank Blackmire, Water Maintenance Coordinator 732-257-8313
The Water Maintenance Division is responsible for maintaining 240 miles of water mains. The function of the Division is to ensure the water distribution system is operational for delivery of drinking water at adequate pressures and volumes for normal domestic and commercial uses, as well as for firefighting requirements. The Water Maintenance crew handles emergency response on a 24 hour basis for all repairs necessary to maintain the underground delivery system. This includes water main, service connection, hydrant, and system valve repairs that require immediate attention due to reasons of public health and safety. This Division is also mandated by the New Jersey One-Call System to respond to mark out requests for underground utilities prior to any excavation taking place.
Sewer Utility
Sewer Maintenance– Edwin Walker, Crew Chief 732-257-1878
The Sewer Utility operates and maintains the sanitary sewage collection system consisting of close to 400 miles of gravity and force mains and 19 sewage pumping stations. The system collects and conveys wastewater to the Middlesex County Utilities Authority’s treatment facility in Sayreville, NJ through 3 metered connection points that are continuously monitored for flow and various wastewater characteristics. In addition to weekly monitoring and maintenance of the sewage pumping stations, Sewer Utility maintenance personnel utilize specialized jetting and root cutting equipment to maintain and improve system flow characteristics, as well as TV monitoring sewer mains and house laterals to assess pipe conditions and detect potential problem areas. Also part of the New Jersey One-Call System, maintenance personnel must respond to underground utility mark out requests.
