The Township of East Brunswick created the East Brunswick Sewerage Authority (EBSA) in 1956 under applicable State statutes to provide for the collection and disposal of sanitary sewerage from all residential and commercial sources in East Brunswick. EBSA is a participant in the Middlesex County Utilities Authority (MCUA) which provides sewerage treatment for East Brunswick and for most of the communities in Middlesex County.

The EBSA sanitary system consists of over 350 miles of gravity and force mains, 22 sewage-pumping stations and our administrative offices and maintenance garage at 25 Harts Lane. We currently have 3 connection points with the MCUA system. These meter chambers are constantly monitored for flow and various components of the sewage flow.

The EBSA administrative offices and maintenance garage are located at 25 Harts Lane, between Tices Lane and Milltown Road. The telephone number is (732) 257-8313; the maintenance division number is (732) 257-1878 and the fax number is (732) 257-0605. Customers may visit the Authority offices for administrative purposes, Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Customers in need of maintenance assistance may visit the maintenance office, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 PM. In the event of an emergency, after hours, you may reach the Authority by contacting the police switchboard at (732) 390-6900; they will contact EBSA personnel who are on call when the administrative and maintenance offices are closed.

A five member Board of Commissioners, including a Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Secretary governs the EBSA. The Township Council appoints the members of the Board of Commissioners. The administrative staff includes an Executive Director and the maintenance division includes a Superintendent and Asst.-Superintendent. EBSA employs a total of 18 employees.

The EBSA annual service charge will be $240 per year, effective January 1, 2005. Payments for our annually billed customers are due on January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1. There is a thirty day (30) grace period from the "due date" on the annual bill. Payments for our quarterly billed customers are due 30 days from the billing date, which is shown on the billing statement. Please read the information on your annual or quarterly bill carefully. It contains important information on your due dates and other valuable information.

To insure that EBSA has the most up-to-date information regarding your account, we would ask our customers to advise us of any change in their mailing address or the correct name of the property owner. In the event a property is being sold, official notification from an attorney must be provided to EBSA indicating the name and address of the new owner. Any information regarding the status of your account can be obtained by calling our administrative offices, during normal working hours. If you experience a disruption of service, please contact the maintenance division office. In the event this problem occurs during non-working hours, you may reach our maintenance personnel through the police switchboard, as noted above. Our main office line contains a recorded message providing these instructions to our customers.

To insure the continued operation of the sanitary sewer service lateral, which carries wastewater from your property to the EBSA sewer mains, it is important that our customers comply with the following advice. For our homeowners, please insure that minimal amounts of grease and oil are disposed of in the system. These can cause blockages and odor problems down stream in the sewer lines. Do not use excessive amounts of dishwasher detergent or powdered soaps in your washing machine as these can also cause blockage problems. Also, minimize the discharge of paper products for the same reason. Do not dispose of any flammable or explosive materials in the sewer system. This includes gasoline, paint thinners, oils or any other petroleum products. These items can cause injury to sanitary sewer workers and damage to the sewer lines. These materials should properly be disposed of on hazardous materials day, which are advertised in your local paper, throughout the year. Our business and commercial customers should follow similar guidelines and those operating food service establishments should insure that their grease traps are fully operational and cleaned on a regular basis. Please remember that our personnel are working in pump stations and in underground locations and the disposal of these products could cause injury. Please help us to insure the safety and environmental integrity of our system by following these guidelines. If you are unsure about the disposal of any product, please contact our maintenance office.

EBSA will be working to provide additional information for our customers to be displayed on this web page. If you are desirous of seeing any specific information, please contact our offices.
